Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, and an average of one in eight women develop this invasive cancer in their lifetime. According to WHO, in 2022, there were an estimated 670,000 deaths from breast cancer. In the US, breast cancer incidence and mortality have been steadily declining due to improved screening access and treatment technologies.
However, not all women have access to frequent screening due to a variety of socioeconomic and regional factors. 60% to 70% of all patients with breast cancer in the USA are diagnosed with stage 1 disease, compared to approximately 1% to 8% of Indian women.
Early detection and subsequent intervention can significantly improve outcomes. There is a progressive increase in five-year survival as the stage of cancer presentation advances. The average survival rate in the US for stage III is 82%, compared to 94% for stage II and 99% for stage I.
Therefore, it is essential to create solutions that bring early screening access to women across the globe, giving them the best possible chance at recovery.
